Our Archbishop

Archbishop Samuel Andango

Archbishop Samuel Andango was the founding Archbishop of the African Divine Church. Born in Western Kenya in the early twentieth century, he came to faith as a young man and soon sensed a clear calling from God to establish an indigenous African church that would honour both Scripture and African identity. In 1957, he stepped out in obedience to that call, gathering a small group of believers for prayer, Bible study, and evangelism. Under his leadership, ADC grew from a humble fellowship into a network of congregations across Western Kenya. He preached the gospel with conviction, trained the first generation of pastors, and laid the spiritual and organisational foundations upon which the church still stands. Archbishop Andango was known for his deep prayer life, his unwavering commitment to holiness, and his love for the people he served. He believed that the church must care for the whole person — spiritual, physical, social, and economic — and so he championed schools, clinics, and relief ministries alongside the preaching of the Word. He went to be with the Lord after a lifetime of faithful service, but his legacy endures. He is honoured at the headquarters in Gamalenga, where a mausoleum stands as a memorial to his life and ministry. The church he founded continues to grow, fulfilling the vision God placed in his heart more than six decades ago.

Our Structure

Leadership Structure

The African Divine Church operates under a clear, ordered, and accountable leadership structure. At the head of the church is the Archbishop, who serves as the spiritual and administrative head of the national church. The Archbishop is supported by the Council of Archbishops, which provides overall direction, guardianship of doctrine, and pastoral care for the church as a whole.

Beneath the Archbishops serve the Bishops, who oversee regional clusters of branches and provide pastoral and administrative supervision for the pastors and congregations within their regions. The College of Bishops meets regularly to deliberate on the life of the church, ensure doctrinal and pastoral consistency, and support the Archbishop in national leadership.

Pastors lead individual congregations, preaching the Word, administering the sacraments, providing pastoral care, and overseeing the ministries of the local church. They are supported by Deacons and Deaconesses, who assist in practical ministry — visiting the sick, caring for the needy, organising worship, and helping administer the day-to-day life of the church.

Specialised departments — including the Pastoral Council, Diaconate, Evangelism Department, and Administrative Council — coordinate particular areas of ministry across the church. Departmental Directors lead these areas, bringing professional skill and spiritual maturity to the work of education, health, missions, finance, and administration. Together, this leadership structure ensures that ADC remains ordered, accountable, and effective in fulfilling its mission.
